Referee Seminar Marked the Beginning of the Autumn–Winter Competition Season of the BKKF
On October 10, a referee seminar officially launched the autumn–winter competition season of the Bulgarian Karate Kyokushin Federation (BKKF). The event was hosted by SC “Katana” – Veliko Tarnovo, which welcomed referees and candidates-referee for the new season.
The seminar featured new additions to the federation’s referee team – active fighters from the national team, who are also national and international medalists. The goal was to unify the judging standards and emphasize the principles of equality and impartiality between competitors.
During the theoretical part, participants discussed the history and philosophy of Kyokushin, as well as the evolution of the rules through the years. Shihan Asen Asenov emphasized:
“Kyokushin must be the foundation for the development of every fighter. In MMA, there are no strict rules or structured learning process – the goal is simply to strike. Kyokushin builds character, discipline, endurance, and fighting spirit.”
He added that Kyokushin incorporates all essential principles and techniques used in combat sports — throws, sweeps, grabs, and strikes to the head and body — making it one of the most complete and valuable styles.
“We are referees for children, but our role is not only to judge — we also correct, guide, and help them achieve better performance and the right approach to fighting,” added Shihan Asenov.
During the practical session, Sensei Ivan Ivanov led the activities with the young fighters from SC “Katana”, who actively participated in simulated match situations.
The seminar concluded with BKKF wishing all clubs, coaches, and athletes a successful autumn–winter half-season and many medals at upcoming national and international competitions.
The next event in the BKKF calendar is the National Cup for Children under 12 and 14, to be held on October 18 in Stara Zagora, hosted by SC “Asken” under Shihan Asen Asenov, with the kind support of Stara Zagora Municipality.
