Marius Munteanu: “I am very excited. I’ve been waiting for this tournament since the beginning of the year!”

On September 13, the beach of the resort complex St. St. Constantine and Helena near Varna, Bulgaria, will host SENSHI 28 – an event that will mark the beginning of a new era for the promotion. For the first time in the organization’s history, the audience will witness the SENSHI Grand Prix – a heavyweight knockout tournament promising high tension and spectacular twists until the very last second. See what one of its participants shared with the combat sports media outlet Boec.bg ahead of the tournament.

Among the fighters who will be part of this format is 36-year-old Romanian Marius Munteanu. Standing 192 cm tall and weighing 105 kg, he holds impressive titles – Colosseum Tournament Champion, Kombat London Champion, and Fight Zone Champion. In SENSHI, he has a balance of one win and two losses, with his last fight being at SENSHI 26.

Munteanu began his journey in combat sports in 2006. “It has been almost 20 years since then, but I feel as if it’s the first day. I love this sport and I am fully dedicated to it,” he shares. His daily routine consists of intensive training – cardio and fitness in the morning, and sparring in the evening. Besides being an active fighter, he is already working as a coach, passing on his experience to his students.

His favorite part of training is sparring, which keeps him close to the real fight atmosphere. Among his most unforgettable memories from SENSHI is his second match in the organization. He was called only 48 hours before the fight, then traveled 12 hours by car to Varna, slept for just six hours, and the next day won by knockout. “That was an incredible emotion,” Munteanu admits.

He considers his greatest achievement to be his consistency – the fact that, as a heavyweight, he has already fought nearly 100 bouts. Among his toughest opponents at SENSHI was Brazilian Bruno Chaves, who gave him one of the hardest challenges in the ring.

The advice the Romanian gives to young fighters is simple and clear: “Never give up, no matter how difficult the challenge seems.” As for himself, he looks toward the future with a clear vision – one more year in the ring, after which he gradually wants to dedicate himself entirely to coaching and leading his students to SENSHI.

“I am very excited. I’ve been waiting for this tournament with eight fighters since the beginning of the year, and I am happy that it will finally take place. I know I’m in the reserve match, but I am convinced that I will get a chance in the eliminations,” says Munteanu.

For him, SENSHI can be described in three words: respect, honor, and achievements. And when he speaks about his expectations for the upcoming fight, he is categorical: “It will be a great clash. One of us will fall. One hundred percent knockout!”.
