KWU SENSHI Gold Cup 2025: The Grand Karate Championship Arrives in Montreal

Montreal is getting ready to host one of the world’s most prestigious karate competitions: the KWU SENSHI Gold Cup 2025. Scheduled for March 15th, the event will take place at the Centre Pierre-Charbonneau, located at 3000 rue Viau, promising to bring together everyone from beginners to the greatest masters of the martial art.

A High-Caliber Championship

Led by Shihan Dominic Ohan, Shihan Pierre Cataford, and their teams, the tournament returns even more grandiose, thanks to an exclusive partnership with KWU SENSHI. The expectation is that the event will raise the technical and competitive level, providing an unforgettable experience for athletes and spectators alike.

Schedule and Participation

The competition will start at 9 a.m., with all competitors required to arrive by 8:30 a.m. The championship is open to all ages and skill levels, from children to adults in beginners, elite and masters.

Disciplines and Categories

Participants can register for kata, kumite, or both, for those looking for a complete challenge. The categories include:

Kata:

  • Open: Children (white to black belt) and Adults (white to brown belt), with mixed groups formed by age and belt level.
  • Elite: Experienced competitors aged 18 and over, black belt.
  • Master: Karatekas aged 35 and over, black belt.

Kumite:

  • Open: Semi-contact for all ages and belts (white to black), with protective equipment and controlled head strikes.
  • Elite: Full contact, no equipment, for experienced competitors aged 18 and over, with groups separated by weight and gender.
  • Master: Full contact with protective equipment, for athletes aged 35 and over, black belt.

Weight Categories:

Men:

  • Lightweight: Up to 70 kg (155 lb)
  • Middleweight: Up to 80 kg (176 lb)
  • Heavyweight: Over 80 kg (176 lb)

Women:

  • Lightweight: Up to 55 kg (121 lb)
  • Middleweight: Up to 65 kg (143 lb)
  • Heavyweight: Over 65 kg (143 lb)

Registration and Fees

Registration must be completed online, with a deadline of March 9th.

  • Under 18s: 70 CAD
  • Adults: 80 CAD

The fee is the same for any category and allows registration in one or two events.

Spectator Tickets

Tickets can be purchased on the day of the event, cash only:

  • Adults: 15 CAD
  • Children: 10 CAD
  • Children under 5: Free admission
