São Paulo hosts over 500 athletes at the 3rd KWU SENSHI Brazilian Kyokushin Championship
The Paulo Portela Sports Complex, widely known as Portelão, located in downtown Suzano — a city in the state of São Paulo, Brazil — became the stage last Sunday (08/31) for one of the largest martial arts events in the country: the 3rd KWU SENSHI Brazilian Kyokushin Championship.
The tournament brought together 518 athletes, ranging from 5 to 60 years old, who competed throughout the day. Participants came not only from different regions of Brazil but also from neighboring countries such as Chile and Argentina, reinforcing the international prestige of the event.
Authorities support the event
Suzano’s Mayor, Rodrigo Ashiuchi, attended the championship alongside the Municipal Secretary of Sports and Leisure, Arnaldo Marin Junior (known as Nardinho). Their presence highlighted the city’s commitment to supporting martial arts and sports as key tools for discipline, respect, and community building.
“Hosting a tournament of this magnitude is an honor for Suzano. We are talking about an event that attracts competitors from various regions and even from abroad, boosting our city and consolidating the Portelão as a reference venue for major competitions. I want to congratulate everyone involved, from the athletes to the organizing team, who worked with dedication to make this championship a success. Suzano continues to be the stage for great sporting achievements,” stated the mayor.
Kyokushin in the spotlight
Beyond medals and results, the championship emphasized the values of Kyokushin karate, a style renowned for its discipline, respect, and collective spirit. The event also fostered cultural exchange between delegations from across Brazil and South America, further strengthening international ties within the martial arts community.
Suzano as a sports hub
With the success of this edition, Suzano reaffirms its position as a reference city for martial arts and a host for large-scale events. The Portelão, increasingly established as a multifunctional arena, stands out as one of the leading venues for both national and international competitions.
