2nd KWU SENSHI JAPAN Seminar Report

The 2nd KWU SENSHI JAPAN Seminar was held on Sunday, March 16, 2025, and hosted by Shihan Akira Masuda at the IBMA Kyokushin Kaikan Masuda Dojo Tama Headquarters. Despite the cold rain, the enthusiasm of the participants filled the venue, creating a lively and unified atmosphere.

Seminar Structure
This seminar was conducted in two parts, focusing on improving participants’ skills from the perspectives of both Karate and Kickboxing.

Part 1: Karate Seminar by Shihan Ryu Narushima
The first half featured a Karate seminar led by Shihan Ryu Narushima of Narushima Dojo. It began with a warm-up session, during which Shihan Narushima carefully explained the purpose, key points, and areas of focus for each exercise.

Next, he provided guidance on fundamental Karate techniques, emphasizing important details, points of focus, and mental awareness. In particular, he showcased his signature mawashi geri (roundhouse kick), demonstrating advanced body control and technique, which captivated the participants.

During the partner training session, participants diligently practiced counter-striking techniques and learned key aspects of body movement from Shihan Narushima. As they exchanged techniques, received feedback, and made adjustments, their skills visibly improved. The combination of Shihan Narushima’s theoretical and practical approach provided participants with new insights, deepening their understanding of Karate.

Part 2: Kickboxing Seminar by Takayuki Kohiruimaki
The second half featured a Kickboxing seminar led by former K-1 champion Takayuki Kohiruimaki. He taught practical combat techniques, including distance control, jab execution, punch evasion, body movement for kicks, visual focus, posture, and breathing techniques for delivering powerful strikes.

Throughout the session, Kohiruimaki personally demonstrated each technique, providing clear and concise explanations. Participants were deeply impressed by his technical proficiency and teaching ability.

The 2.5-hour seminar passed in an instant, offering an invaluable experience for all attendees. Exposure to elite-level techniques from both Karate and Kickboxing heightened participants’ awareness and motivation to improve their own skills.
